The area of Jämijärvi is 224,65 km2, of which forest ca. 10 000 ha and water area, lakes, 1 039 ha. The height of the ridges in the Hämeenkangas is 185,4 m ASL, and 85m AGL of Lake Jämijärvi. This offers a very exotic view from the tower of Jämi, the birdwatcher's and glider pilot's "nest", right above the EFJM Airfield. Therefore the similarities of Jämi to the Lappish landscape are observed. The scenery can be seen from webcam located on top of the tower.
The landscape is dominated by two ice-age sand formations which are joining at the EFJM surroundings. The sand ridges are an idea for certain vegetation like furtree and pine. This vegetation and land shaping is very good for generating the thermal convection as cool air is flowing thru the treetops, is heated there, and is again combined to the ridge suction effect. In that way they form comfortable thermals all over the area of Hämeenkangas. As the elevation of the Hämeenkangas is about 85m above the lake elevation we can enjoy these smooth lift generators as glider pilots. All aviation forms are welcoming the South-Westernly winds as they usually are in southern Finland, which combines the aerospace suitable for not only gliding but also for hang-gliding, parachuting and for radio controlled gliders, at the vicinity of the ridges. Water areas Lake Jämijärvi is located 100,6m ASL. The streams Naurisjoki and Palojoki are supplying the main "refill" to the large and interesting shaped lake Jämijärvi. Numerous small streams are arriving from the ridges and underwater springs are common in the area. Downstreams from the lake district is via Jyllinjoki, towards south-east, and it arrives in the lake Kyrösjärvi, nearby town Ikaalinen. Muodostelma
